Reunion Recap

Reunion Recap

June 5th thru June 7th Phi Lambda Phi Sisters gathered in Oswego for our 56th reunion. The weekend was an amazing success as over 60 alumni and 9 actives spent the weekend reminiscing and sharing stories of their days as active sisters in Phi Lambda Phi as well as meeting sisters from other era as well as the actives and making new memories.
One thing is certainly for sure, time transcends no boundaries and for many of us it seemed like just yesterday we were all together as young women in Phi Lamb.

Festivities included a Meet n Greet Happy hour at the Press Box on Friday afternoon. Sisters enjoyed cocktails small bites and greeting sisters as they arrived in Oswego.
After the Meet n Greet as many sisters continued to arrive in Oswego. Sisters started the check in at Hart Hall where many shared rooms on 5th floor. The festivities continued with a wonderful BBQ shared by many at Fallbrook followed by an evening of singing, dancing and fun with many alumni and active sisters participating.

Fallbrook Come As You Are BBQ

Our Annual meeting and luncheon followed on Saturday at Bistro 197. Our 2015 reunion committee of Kathy Henry Powell, AC Marcellino, and Linda Kimball did an amazing job securing this beautiful venue, where a wonderful afternoon was had by all.

At our meeting the new PLPAA Tiered membership program was reviewed as well as the state of the sorority, finances, our suggested amendments to the PLPAA Constitution and Sisters running for the 2015-2016 PLPAA Board. Our Historian Amanda Pendock asked for help with any memorabilia, Big / Little Sister updates and family tree information for her Tree Project.

Following our meeting sisters continued in a sing off by year, and of course, our Lamb Mascot Carla Speranza entertaining us in a rendition of Flaming Lambies!!!

Phi Times March 2015 – Pledging Update

Phi Times March 2015 – Pledging Update

February 20th was Bid Day, and PLPAA is excited to report that we have 9 pledges this semester. Under the leadership of Pledge Mistress Rachael Hayden, we look forward to a successful pledge program and to welcoming these young ladies into our Sisterhood in April.

Our active sisters have shared important dates /Traditions for the Pledge Program and welcome any and all alumnae to participate in these events.

(Events and dates were published in the March Phi Times and on the PLPAA Official Group Page on Facebook. They are not repeated here because this is a publicly visible page.)

If you are planning to attend any of these events or visit on a different date, please email the PLPAA’s liaison to Pledging, Leanne Rasha.  Doing so helps us to keep communication between actives and alumnae open and clear, and avoids us overwhelming Rachael with emails, text, and calls.

Phi Times – March 2015 Update – Survival Baskets

Phi Times – March 2015 Update – Survival Baskets

Help to keep Phi Lamb alive and strong by contributing to the Pledge Survival Basket Fund is well underway. After a very successful beginning last semester, Susan Shanahan and Elizabeth Rapple are again collecting donations from all alumnae so that they can create and deliver baskets of goodies to pledges. This new tradition was warmly received in the fall by the pledges. And it helps to connect our actives to the 1,110 alumnae sisters who all remember our own pledge days (and would have welcomed such a gift!)

Sisters may make any monetary donation (which will be used to buy toiletries, food treats, fun and/or useful gifts, all beautifully crafted into gift baskets for the pledges.)

Monetary donations can be made via PayPal at shanahansusan@yahoo.com  or sent directly to Susan Shanahan, 93 Atlantic Avenue, APT #1R, Brooklyn NY 11201.  Alumnae can also send Dunkin Doughnuts gift cards to Susan as well.

54 West 5th House Update

54 West 5th House Update

The past month has moved slowly but steadily toward the final sale of the House. The buyer has cleaned up the yard – mowing, trimming, and picking up trash.  He has also been busy securing liability insurance and finalizing his prepossession agreement so that he can get started on renovating and repairing the building. He has repeatedly insisted that he wants to rent back to Phi Lambda Phi, starting June 1st  when he expects to be completed with his work. PLPAA has shared photos with him which show  how the House looked in “better days.” And great news: he plans to tear down the half-completed front porch and start fresh with a porch more like the original one.

On our part of the sale process, PLPAA has hired an appraiser to complete a detailed and updated report on the property as required by the legal approval process. Once that report goes to our attorney, she will finalize her paperwork and send it on to step one – the State Attorney General’s office in Syracuse where the sale needs to be reviewed and approved. After that, it goes for approval to the state Supreme Court in Oswego. No one knows how long these two steps will take, but once completed, we can finally go to closing to finalize the sale.

It’s a long and winding road, but at the end, we hope to have our beloved House back. Stay tuned.
