Phi Times March 2015 – Pledging Update

Phi Times March 2015 – Pledging Update

February 20th was Bid Day, and PLPAA is excited to report that we have 9 pledges this semester. Under the leadership of Pledge Mistress Rachael Hayden, we look forward to a successful pledge program and to welcoming these young ladies into our Sisterhood in April.

Our active sisters have shared important dates /Traditions for the Pledge Program and welcome any and all alumnae to participate in these events.

(Events and dates were published in the March Phi Times and on the PLPAA Official Group Page on Facebook. They are not repeated here because this is a publicly visible page.)

If you are planning to attend any of these events or visit on a different date, please email the PLPAA’s liaison to Pledging, Leanne Rasha.  Doing so helps us to keep communication between actives and alumnae open and clear, and avoids us overwhelming Rachael with emails, text, and calls.

Phi Times – March 2015 Update – Survival Baskets

Help to keep Phi Lamb alive and strong by contributing to the Pledge Survival Basket Fund is well underway. After a very successful beginning last semester, Susan Shanahan and Elizabeth Rapple are again collecting donations from all alumnae so that they can create and deliver baskets of goodies to pledges. This new tradition was warmly received in the fall by the pledges. And it helps to connect our actives to the 1,110 alumnae sisters who all remember our own pledge days (and would have welcomed such a gift!)

Sisters may make any monetary donation (which will be used to buy toiletries, food treats, fun and/or useful gifts, all beautifully crafted into gift baskets for the pledges.)

Monetary donations can be made via PayPal at shanahansusan@yahoo.com  or sent directly to Susan Shanahan, 93 Atlantic Avenue, APT #1R, Brooklyn NY 11201.  Alumnae can also send Dunkin Doughnuts gift cards to Susan as well.

Juliet Lee shared with us another example that sisterhood is forever. Juliet pledged almost 20 years ago, and for her 40th birthday sisters that she keeps in touch with drove down to NYC in January to attend her surprise party.

Juliet stated
“In this picture is my big sis, one of my pledge sisters, two of my Lambies when I was their PM, and one who has no direct ties to me like the others except for a great friendship. Thank you all for traveling from Rochester, Syracuse, Albany and Queensbury!  Love in Phi Lamb – Juliet”
Spring ‘92 rocks the house! — Continuing their yearly reunion in Vermont, Susan Kassal wrote:
“From Spring ’92 to 2015…  Some of our last names may have changed and maybe we’re a little older, but our friendship and laughter still remain. Love these little lambs!”
A good time was had by all —Bonnie Love, Linda Karp, Donna Snyder, Peggy Hallock-Kraker, Michelle Klinger-Wellner, Leona Stone Scott, Tricia Longo Gibbons and Linda Crittenden.

On January 9th thru 11th, 2015, twenty plus Lambs gathered in West Palm Beach, Florida for a magical weekend celebration of friendship, love and sisterhood.

The weekend started with a meet n’ greet Happy Hour at BJ’s Brew house for drinks, food, laughter and conversation. Sisters continued the party later at the Hawthorne Suites where several gathered for hours of reminiscing and reconnecting with sisters from the ‘70s to the ‘80s.

On Saturday, the party continued with a Reunion luncheon at ER Bradley’s, located on the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway. Sisters, spanning more than 30 years and most dressed in yellow and black, gathered for a beautiful luncheon. The room was festively decorated in yellow and black with balloons, signage and Phi Lamb Banners welcoming us. With laughter, tears, talk of times and traditions gone by, the years seemed to melt away.

We were honored to have two Founding Pearls among us,  Carol Sommerstein Morganthal and Marcy Weingart Rosenzweig, as well as four sisters from PLP’s first pledge class. It was an amazing experience to meet two special sisters who never realized what they helped to start back in Oswego in the spring of 1959. Sisterhood truly transcends all ages.

After the luncheon, many sisters returned to the hotel for an after party where sisters continued to share stories, experiences and reminisce, sharing pledge books, memorabilia and song from all ages.

This regional reunion was the vision of Leona Stone Scott who did a wonderful job of making all the plans for our showcase luncheon event and coordinating her reunion committee: Bonnie Love, Michelle Klinger-Wellner, Tricia Longo Gibbons, and Linda Villani Karp.

A good time was had by all. There was talk of organizing another Florida reunion for next winter, so stay tuned all you Florida residents, Snowbirds, and escapees from winter weather.

The PLPAA supports regional reunions. If you would like to organize a reunion in your area, contact Bonnie Love, PLPAA president, for more information and our Reunion in a box program.
